Hall of Fame Inductee Peter McCallum

Biography


Peter McCallum was inducted as the 23rd member into the SPN Hall of Fame on Saturday, Oct 24th at the Slo-Pitch National annual general meeting in the “Umpire’s category”.

Peter began umpiring in 1978, and fell in love with the role. He became a Slo-Pitch National umpire in 1989 and became involved with SPN as an Umpire In Chief in the Windsor/Essex region in the mid 1990’s and has umpired at the Provincial Championships each year since 1992. Peter has officiated at National Championships across Canada, including Niagara Falls, Whistler, Calgary, Moncton and St John’s. He also represented Slo-Pitch National in Saskatoon.

Peter has been actively involved with officiating at the Local level, where he organizes the local umpire association in Essex County. He was named the Ontario Umpire of the Year, in 2000, and the Ontario Volunteer of the Year in 2005. He held the position of Ontario Deputy Umpire In Chief in 1994 and 1995.

Peter held the role of Deputy National Umpire In Chief from 1997 until 2001, at which time he was named the National Umpire In Chief. Peter held the role of National Umpire In Chief until 2010. His contributions to the Ontario and National umpires program are recognized through this induction into the Umpires category in the Hall of Fame.

Peter and his wife Cathy reside in Lasalle. Peter continues to umpire both locally and at the Provincial Championships.
