Hall of Fame Inductee David Grimes

Biography

David Grimes was inducted as the 22rd member into the SPN Hall of Fame on Saturday, Oct 24th at the Slo-Pitch National annual general meeting in the “Umpire’s category”.

Dave held the role of Newfoundland Provincial Umpire In Chief from 1992 until he retired from the position in 2010. He has been an active umpire at the local level in

Grand Falls, and has organized UIC crews at the Provincial and National Championships hosted at various sites across Newfoundland, as well as attended National Championships across Canada as an active on field official. Dave’s passion for training new and experienced umpires was admired by his peers, as was his wonderful sense of humour.

During Dave’s acceptance speech at the Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony in Toronto, Dave noted that his love of the game of slo-pitch and his passion for officiating was strong, however, his love for his family was stronger, and after a tragic car accident where his wife Nellie was seriously injured and nearly died, Dave felt the strong desire to spend more time with his loved ones, and decided to retire from his umpiring commitments.

Slo-Pitch National congratulates Dave on his induction into the SPN Hall of Fame.
